Treatment Approaches

Research-Based Therapy Tailored to You

Wendy integrates evidence-based approaches to support healing, including:

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

A trauma-focused therapy designed to address deep emotional shock and attachment disruptions.

  • Deep Brain Reorienting® (DBR) aims to access the core of the traumatic experience in a way which tracks the original physiological sequence in the brainstem, the part of the brain which is rapidly online in situations of danger or attachment disruption. There may be threat and attachment wounding together when, for example, an experience of abandonment in infancy activates age-appropriate fears for survival.

  • In DBR sessions, the focus is on the initial physiological responses in the brainstem during a traumatic event. By tracking these original responses, therapy aims to access and process the core of the traumatic experience.

  • DBR seeks to facilitate healing by addressing the foundational neurophysiological aspects of trauma, potentially leading to profound and lasting recovery.

  • Individuals experiencing symptoms related to attachment disruptions or other deep-seated traumatic experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

A structured approach that helps reprocess distressing memories and reduce emotional distress.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps individuals with concerns, whether they stem from the past, present or future, feel better now. It is a collaborative process that does not require an individual to share their entire story or to share details of the traumatic event/s. It is effective across cultures, and ethnicities, from children to adults and seniors.

  • EMDR works by having an individual focus on the upsetting situation with the clinician simultaneously using back-and-forth (bilateral) motion, typically with the eyes, for the individual to follow. Eye movements have been shown to reduce the vividness, arousal and emotional intensity of traumatic events (Barrowcliff, et al., 2004). Each EMDR clinician is trained extensively in the 8-phase EMDR protocol to be able to safely and effectively deliver bilateral stimulation.

  • EMDR has been proven effective in helping those heal from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depressive disorders, dissociative disorders, personality disorders, and trauma disorders.

  • Individuals across cultures and ethnicities, from children to adults and seniors, dealing with various concerns, including trauma and anxiety.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and together we will determine the approach that best supports your needs.
